Dana McPhall

Dana McPhall

Dana brings over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and government sectors as an advocate for women of color and non-human animals. In 2015, Dana received her Master of Education-Humane Education degree through a joint program with the Institute for Humane Education (IHE) and Valparaiso University, and now dedicates herself to promoting anti-racist humane education within K-12 schools, higher education, and communities at large. Dana currently serves as adjunct faculty at IHE, where she regularly applies a racial justice lens to humane education work.

In 2019, Dana developed and began teaching a novel graduate course entitled Race, Intersectionality and Veganism. Dana also supports parents and caregivers in talking with children about white supremacy, racism and speciesism. In addition to her M.Ed. degree, Dana has a B.A. and M.P.P. from the University of Michigan, and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.

Stuart McDonald

Stuart is an Encompass consultant as well as Communications Manager at Animal Outlook. Prior to entering the animal rights movement she studied activism and activist burnout, specifically pertaining to the LGBTQ rights and racial justice movements. This has informed her transition to animal protection, where she continues to incorporate issues of racism, gender equity, and bodily autonomy into her work for animals.

She has additionally worked in the consumer protection space alongside Ralph Nader, done domestic violence advocacy work, and co-taught courses on social justice and ethical tourism. She is a steering committee member of Gender Equity in Animal Rights.

She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Social Justice and Human Rights from George Mason University. She lives on Powhatan land in Richmond, VA.
